Hara Village does not receive particularly heavy snowfall in winter, but the temperature drops significantly. The same inland climate that limits snowfall also produces beautiful clear winter skies known as “Yatsugatake blue”. When snow is on the ground, you can enjoy winter sports such as snowshoeing through the forests or skiing at a nearby resort.

Starry Skies of the Illumination Festival

Beautiful illuminations light up in the darkness while stars shine in the night sky. It is cold outside, but our hearts are warmed by the illumination festival, held from November.

Cultivation of Cyclamen Flowers

The AMEDAS weather station located on the plateau at an altitude of 500 m records the third longest sunlight time in Japan. Bathed in this abundant sunlight, vividly colorful cyclamen and anemone flowers are cultivated, and the area is known nationwide as a famous place for growing flowers.

The Elementary School’s Playground Becomes a Skating Rink in Winter.

In the schoolyard of Hara Elementary School, winter’s chill is harnessed to construct an ice-rink where the children can enjoy skating. Three Olympic athletes started their skating careers on this rink.
